You see the pictures everywhere, on TV, on social media, in magazines – pristine sandy beaches with bright blue waters. The pictures look almost fake, there is no way this paradise is real. However, those perfectly blue waters do exist. From baby blue to navy, here are the bluest waters around the world.

Crater Lake – Oregon, USA

Oregon most likely does not come to mind when one think’s of blue water. However, Crater Lake changes that theory. Vibrant blue waters fill the caldera of a sunken volcano. As there is no incoming water channels, the water remains an opaque, dark blue. Crater Lake is also the deepest lake in the United States with depths up to 1,943 feet.

Moraine Lake – Alberta, Canada

Located in Banff national park, the Moraine Lake is situated in the Valley of the Ten Peaks. As the lake is glacially fed, it does not reach its peak until late June. The lake acts like a mirror and reflects stunning shades of blue, due to a refraction of light of the rock flour in the lake.

Navagio Bay – Zakinthos, Greece

Zakinthos, Greece is a beautiful in its own right. But, Navagio Bay is also a sparkling gem from within the island. Also, know as Shipwreck Cove, Navagio Bay is an exposed cove, hidden by towering cliffs. The beach is only accessible by boat, but the bright blue waters are worth the sail.

Great Barrier Reef – Queensland, Australia

The Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef system in the world. The reef is surrounded by amazing clear azure waters. However, recently the reef has been highly protected as part of the reef are dying due to rising water temperatures.

Gruta do Lago Azul – Bonito, Brazil

The Gruta do Lago Azul is located in Bonito, Brazil. It is made of two caves with calcareous formations and the most exquisite blue waters. The lake has been protected since 1978 and many fossils have been found in the area. The blue color is most intense between the months of September and February.
