Travel Spotlight: Rome

Rome is one of the most historically rich cities in the world. With more sites to visit than can be realistically seen during a single vacation, Rome is a top destination for European vacationers. Here’s a quick look at where to stay, where to eat and what to do when in Rome so that you’ll get the most out of your visit to this ancient city.

Where to Stay

Hassler Roma

The Hassler Roma is a classic hotel in Rome. You can book a multitude of rooms here, from your standard suite to a luxurious penthouse. No matter which room type you choose, you’d better be prepared to pay a premium for it, as this hotel runs on the more expensive side. The hotel also boasts an amazing spa and the kind of old world charm you expect from a classic Italian hotel.

What to Eat

Cesare al Casaletto

Picking a top restaurant in Rome is really impossible. There’s fantastic food on just about every corner and at just about every budget. However, if you’re looking for “classic” Roman cuisine, check out Cesare al Casaletto. It’s a wonderful neighborhood trattoria that really specializes in the classic dishes. While you’ll find no shortage of classic appetizers and pastas, the pizzas on the menu are some of the best in the city, too. Add to that a very reasonably priced wine list and it’s hard to go wrong with Cesare al Casaletto.

What to Do

Santa Maria del Popolo

Putting together an all-inclusive list of what to do in Rome is impossible. There are virtually countless landmarks and museums to visit. It’s also one of the best places in the world to visit if visiting ancient churches is your thing. It’s also impossible to put together a list of all the best churches to visit in Rome but Santa Maria del Popolo is a great place to start. This Renaissance church showcases some of the most amazing artwork in Rome, dating back to the 15th through 17th centuries. While you can certainly see great artwork in any number of Rome’s museums, seeing pieces in a church—where artists originally put them—is a more authentic experience.
