Love is clearly more than skin deep, and maybe opposites do attract. Just ask these celebrity couples, who don’t seem to mind their surprising height differences!
Wladimir Klitschko & Hayden Panettiere (6’6″ and 5’0″)
Beauty and the beast personified, 6’6″ heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko and 5′ Hollywood actress Hayden Panettiere are not only eighteen inches apart, but also just wildly dissimilar looking. They obviously work well together, though: they’re married and have a daughter, Kaya.
Shaquille O’Neal & Laticia Rolle (7’1″ and 5’6″)
Shaquille O’Neal is obviously at peace with the fact that whoever he’s with will be much shorter than him. There aren’t many 7-foot-tall women on the market, after all. So when he started dating 5’6″ Laticia Rolle, it was no big deal that he’s an amazing 19 inches taller than her. Believe it or not, Laticia was also a star basketball player at the high school and college levels.
Cameron Diaz & Benji Madden (5’9″ and 5’7″)
Cameron Diaz is quite an exception in Hollywood, where actresses tend to be on the shorter side to make actors look taller on camera. However, singer Benji Madden certainly isn’t worried about being a couple of inches shorter than Cameron. The two met due to an introduction from Nicole Richie and were engaged for just 17 days before tying the knot in 2015.
Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban (5’11” and 5’10”)
Nicole Kidman is a famous movie star known for her amazing performances over multiple decades, while Keith Urban is a successful country singer. However, the two actually have a lot in common, including their Australian backgrounds. Give kudos to Urban for not minding her one-inch height advantage – or the fact that she positively towers over him in heels!
Shakira & Gerard Pique (5’0″ and 6’4″)
Shakira may be a bigger star in the U.S. than Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique, but Pique is a huge star elsewhere. The two are an incredible 16 inches different in height, while Shakira is ten years older than Gerard. But the two met when he appeared in the music video for her 2010 World Cup song and they fell in love. Now they have two children together and seem extremely happy together.
Mary-Kate Olsen & Olivier Sarkozy (5’2″ and 6’3″)
Mary-Kate Olsen’s marriage to Olivier Sarkozy is surprising to many others because of the differences between them. Not only is Olivier 13 inches taller than his bride, but he’s also 18 years older than she is! The French banker certainly doesn’t mind having a younger wife, though, and Mary-Kate seems fine with their differences, too.
Sacha Baron Cohen & Isla Fisher (6’3″ and 5’3″)
Sometimes, it’s hard to tell just how tall someone is from seeing them on television or a movie screen. Sacha Baron Cohen is known for his amusing antics and characters such as Borat and Ali G, but he’s actually quite tall at 6’3″. Meanwhile, Isla Fisher seems much taller than 5’3″ on screen. When the two married in 2010, however, it was clear that height was not a concern!
Kate Middleton & Prince William (5’9″ and 6’3″)
Kate Middleton is very tall at 5’9″, but Prince William tops even that at 6’3″, all but ensuring that their children will have a stature worthy of the crown. The two met way back in 2003 when they were attending the University of St. Andrews together. They married eight years later in a storybook wedding and now have three children together.
Lisa Bonet & Jason Momoa (5’2″ and 6’4″)
The 6’4″ Jason Momoa towers over just about everyone he meets, which is why he’s earned roles such as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones and Aquaman in Justice League. Meanwhile, his wife Lisa Bonet is quite petite, but the two of them obviously are quite happy just they way they are. They’ve been rumored to have together for over a decade, but made it official much more recently.
Rod Stewart & Penny Lancaster (5’10” and 6’1″)
It’s not as if rock and roll legend Rod Stewart is short at 5’10”, but he really chose a woman with “Hot Legs” when he hooked up with 6’1″ Penny Lancaster, and her height shows when they make appearances together. It was his third wedding, and he’s always preferred tall, beautiful women, so obviously he’s not insecure about being shorter than women.
Reese Witherspoon & Jim Toth (5’1″ and 6’1″)
Reese Witherspoon has always had a fiery side to her, which has made her a hit in such films as Legally Blonde. Perhaps that’s why she seems much closer in height to her 6’1″ husband Jim Toth than she really is. Still, with great performances for decades now on the silver screen, no one can say that she doesn’t loom large in Hollywood.
Pharrell Williams & Helen Lasichanh (5’9″ and 5’11”)
Pharrell Williams has been with his wife Helen Lasichanh for a little while now, but the two have been friends for longer. When he saw the 5’11” model, he said she stood out right away. “I was just so enamored by the moment I was having with her,” he said. The two dated for five years before they got married, and now they have a son and new triplets.
Tina Fey & Jeff Richmond (Both 5’5″)
Sure, so technically these two are the same size, but Jeff Richmond’s 5’5″ stature is quite uncommon and when Tina wears heels for events, the height difference between the two of them is quite noticeable. Tina is a funny woman and it shows, as she refers to her composer husband as being “travel-sized.” The two have known each other since way back in 1994.
Will Smith & Jada Pinkett Smith (6’2″ and 5′)
Although Jada Pinkett Smith is just 5′, she has all the spark and fire that she needs to appear much taller in every day life. This may be one of the secrets to the longevity of her relationship with Will Smith. The funny thing is that the two met on the set of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but she didn’t get the part of Will’s on-screen girlfriend because they said she was too short.
Jessica Simpson & Eric Johnson (5’3″ and 6’3″)
Many people remember Jessica Simpson for her long marriage to Nick Lachey, but after that came to an end, she met Eric Johnson, a former NFL player that clocks in at a burly 6’3″ tall. Johnson is obviously used to being on the tall side, so the height difference has not mattered and they seem very happy with their two children.
Kevin Hart & Eniko Parrish (5’4″ and 5’7″)
Since Kevin Hart is obviously on the shorter side, it only makes sense that he’s with a taller woman than himself. Still, his diminutive size is part of his charm and a frequent part of his comedy stylings, as well. Obviously, Hart has thick skin about his height, so the three-inch difference is no big deal for him. His size has worked for his career and his personal life.
Jenna Elfman & Bodhi Elfman (5’10” and 5’9″)
Actor Bodhi Elfman and wife Jenna are actually very close in height, but she is definitely unusually tall for a woman, and he’s on the shorter side. Obviously, they don’t care and they hit it off right away when they met at a Sprite commercial audition. Much has changed in the ensuing three decades, but the love between them has not.
Fergie & Josh Duhamel (5’2″ and 6’3″)
In 2009, the pocket-sized singer Fergie married tall actor Josh Duhamel, and they didn’t look back for nearly a decade. Their careers have blossomed since they met on the set of Las Vegas in 2004, although they’ve hit some rocky patches in the more recent years. They sadly decided to split, but we haven’t given up hope for them just yet.
Kristen Bell & Dax Shepard (5’1″ and 6’2″)
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are one of the best matches in Hollywood because of their similar senses of humor. Whenever you see them together, it’s clear that they truly enjoy being in one another’s company. The pair are both Michigan natives and not only has their height difference not been an issue, but they’ve also starred together in many projects, such as Veronica Mars and When In Rome.
Seth Green & Clare Grant (5’4″ and 5’7″)
Sure, Seth Green is short compared to his leading lady, Clare Grant. But the two share so many other things in common that it clearly doesn’t matter to either of them whatsoever. Believe it or not, they first met at a comic book store 12 years ago and since then, have regularly been attendees at the world-famous San Diego Comic-Con.
Carmelo Anthony & La La Anthony (6’8″ and 5’6″)
At 5’6″, it’s not as if La La Anthony is small, but she still stands well over a foot shorter than NBA all-star Carmelo Anthony, her husband for years now. The two have a ten-year-old son together and it’s anybody’s guess how tall he might grow up to be! These two certainly don’t mind being a bit different from one another, and why should they?
Jamie Cullum & Sophie Dahl (5’5″ and 6′)
Singer-songwriter Jamie Cullum knows that you have to be brave to even get on stage and play music for a crowd, and that bravery probably served him well as he first approached the much taller Sophie Dahl for a date. Married since 2010, Jamie has often shrugged off their height difference: “I think if we were both slightly more neurotic people, it would be crippling, but the fact of the matter is that we’re both happy.”
Chris Hemsworth & Elsa Pataky (6’3″ and 5’3″)
When you stand at 6’3″ and play Thor for a living, you’re going to appear huge next to whoever you date. Elsa Pataky probably doesn’t mind the difference, we’d assume. Elsa is a Spanish actress and model who said “I do” to the handsome actor not long after they met in 2010. Since then, it’s been a storybook romance and the pair have three children together.
Sarah Michelle Gellar & Freddie Prinze Jr. (5’2″ and 6’1″)
These two are synonymous with the 1990s, that’s for sure. Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar met while filming I Know What You Did Last Summer and got married five years later. Sure, they have nearly a foot of height difference between them, but obviously they don’t mind as they’ve been married for 15 years and have two children together.
Kourtney Kardashian & Younes Bendjima (5′ and 6’2″)
Kourtney Kardashian is much different than her famous sisters in that she likes to keep her love life private. However, there’s no mistaking the fact that her beau Younes Bendjima is much taller than her (and younger by 15 years, to boot). However, it doesn’t seem to bother each of them that they’re quite different in height and age.
LeBron James & Savannah Brinson (6’8″ and 5’7″)
LeBron James has been in the spotlight since his high school days, and that’s when he met Savannah Brinson, a cheerleader and softball player. The two stuck together through the many years since and LeBron proposed to Brinson at a New Year’s Eve party in 2011. They’ve been together 16 years and have three kids, height difference be damned!
Mila Kunis & Ashton Kutcher (5’4″ and 6’2″)
It’s funny that almost 15 years after they began acting in That ’70s Show together (even playing a couple!), these two finally started dating. In 2015, they decided to get married. Obviously, Ashton is used to being taller than the women he’s with, so that’s no big deal. Hey, we get it Ashton; we like short girls, too!
Bella Hadid & The Weeknd (5’10” and 5’9″)
It can’t be easy dating a model. They’re already quite tall and they never go anywhere in flats, so get ready to feel short. Well, OK, we’d accept that if it meant dating Bella Hadid. The Weeknd and the supermodel have been an on-again, off-again couple for some time, but it seems like they are determined to stick together through thick and thin.
Peter Dinklage & Erica Schmidt (4’5″ and 5’6″)
The immensely talented Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage and his theater director wife Erica Schmidt have more than a foot difference in height, but the two are completely in love. They have two children and according to Dinklage, she is “definitely the artist of the family” while he’s “just the TV actor who pays the bills.”
Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth (5’5″ and 6’3″)
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth first became a couple way back in 2009, when they met while filming The Last Song. For a few years after, things were pretty tumultuous, as the two ended their engagement in 2013 amid some rather strange behavior by Miley. However, they have gotten back together and appear to be in it for the long haul.
