Chicago in October offers up perfect sweatshirt weather. The mild temps make a perfect accompaniment when walking around the various neighborhoods that the Windy City has to offer. Hit up the Riverwalk and take in all of the docks, restaurants, bars, and boats (maybe even hop on one of those boats and take a tour!). Another must-see when visiting Chicago this month is the Art Institute of Chicago, home to several of the world’s most famous art pieces. Finally, Chicago has plenty of events happening this month that make a visit worthwhile, including the Columbus Day parade, countless Halloween parties, and the Chicago International Film Festival.
Egypt sees a lot of tourist traffic during the summer months. Come October, though, that traffic drops off, making it an excellent month to visit. Fewer crowds and cooler temperatures are just a couple of reasons to visit in October. You can visit epic monuments like the ancient pyramids or countless open-air markets without the long lines, and October also marks the Abu Simbel Sun Festival, a celebration dedicated to King Ramses.
It’s probably no surprise, but Halloween is essentially a month-long holiday in the town of Salem, Massachusetts. You can visit festivals and exhibits all month that celebrate the town’s history of witchcraft and the Halloween holiday. October 4th through the 14th marks the Salem Horror Fest, which features classic horror films every night. You’ll also find public readings of classic horror literature, costume parties, walking tours, and the Salem Psychic Fair and Witches’ Market. If you love Halloween, Salem definitely needs to be on your bucket list!
Sardinia in summertime brings crowded beaches and hot temperatures. Visiting in October means those beaches are crowd-free and the temperatures are far more comfortable. October is also the host month for a fall festival where you can experience tons of local culture and visit the island’s many archaeological sites.
