Does the idea of travelling the world while getting paid to drink appeal to you? If so, you’re going to love a new contest resulting from a partnership between a group of London bar owners and Bombay Sapphire Gin.
August marked the inaugural contest whereby a group of London-based bars called “Mr. Fogg’s” and Bombay Sapphire gin selected one contestant to travel the world with a friend and taste global ingredients as they attempt to invent a new cocktail to serve at the newest bar in the group, Society of Exploration.
The contest winners will enjoy an all-expense paid trip to locations around the world, where they’ll also taste a multitude of gin-based drinks for free. The theme of the contest and the trip is based on Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days. In fact, the bar group Mr. Fogg’s gets its name from the main character in the book, Phileas Fogg. It’s in the spirit of the books worldwide adventure that the contest winners will travel. Their trip will last 80 days and while the exact locations haven’t been announced, many famous locations are mentioned on the website, including San Francisco, New York, Lisbon, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Mumbai.
The winners don’t have to worry about paying for a thing. The plane tickets, hotels and any other travel-related expense is completely covered by Mr. Fogg’s and Bombay Sapphire. Aside from the amazing experiences, the trip is valued at more than $10,000.
The winners started their travels at the end of August and will continue to explore the world and its cocktails through November. However, they’re expected to do more than just drink and party. As true adventurers, the winners are expected to also document their journeys through a blog they’ll maintain as well as social media posts. Their biggest job, however, is to collect the recipes and ingredients needed to create the cocktails that will be served at the new Society of Exploration.
While the winners haven’t been announced, those who have followed the initial announcement of the contest are waiting anxiously for updates on the winners and their 80-day adventure. For those of us who missed out on this year’s adventure, we can only hope that future contests will give us the opportunity to get paid for traveling and enjoying cocktails!
