In the last several decades, reality television has become a global phenomenon. Shows such as Survivor and Big Brother have gained much success. The genre is all about documenting unscripted situations, typically with an unknown cast. These unknown people usually gain popularity and become stars. Some capitalize on their five seconds of fame while others choose to step out of the limelight. Let’s take a look at what some of your favorite reality stars are doing today.

Jack Osbourne From The Osbournes

For several years Jack Osburne lived in the shadow of his father Ozzy Osbourne. Yet in recent years Jack has managed to succeed on his own as well. He may have started out his career by being on the family reality show The Osbournes. However, today Jack has become a travel and fitness reporter. And as of summer 2016, he and his father are filming a travel reality series called Ozzy & Jack’s World. 

Alyssa From True Life: “I Have Tourette’s Syndrome”

One of the first successful reality shows was MTV’s True Life. In one episode, called “I Have Tourette’s Syndrome,”  a girl named Alyssa spoke about her everyday struggle with the disability. At the time, she was also undergoing brain surgery. Nowadays she is getting treatment for OCD at Roger’s Memorial Hospital. However, in the past few years, she has made great progress.

William Hung From American Idol

American Idol is one of the most successful reality shows out there. In fact, in the past, it was described as “unparalleled in broadcasting history” and “the most impactful show in the history of television.” It has produced many stars. One of them was William Hung; he became known for his funny cover of Ricky Martin’s “She Bangs.” Although he has released his own album, he ended up changing his career path completely and became a crime analyst for the Los Angeles Police Department.

Flavor Flav From Flavor Of Love

Flavor Flav originally started out as part of a Hip-Hop group called Public Enemy. Later on, he became well known for participating in the reality series The Surreal Life. Following his appearance, he got his own reality show called Flavor Of Love. In the series, twenty female contestants competed for his love. Nowadays he is not in the industry anymore. In fact, he owns a fried chicken restaurant which so far hasn’t achieved much success.

 

Audrina Patridge From The Hills

Audrina Patridge has appeared in both Laguna Beach and the spin-off The Hills. After the show, she has had several television appearances. In 2013, she was the host of 1st Look. She also competed in Dancing With The Stars. She even had her own reality show called Audrina. But the series was not successful and was canceled after one season. Audrina ended up marrying BMX star Corey Bohan and the two had a daughter together. However, they later got divorced.

Stephen Colletti From Laguna Beach

You may remember heartthrob Stephen Colletti from the reality series Laguna Beach. After the show, he remained in the industry. He appeared in shows such as Celebrity Undercover and Total Request Live. A bit later, in 2007, he starred in the drama series One Tree Hill. His performance on the show was highly acclaimed. He also appeared in Taylor Swift’s music video for the song White Horse.”

New York From Flavor of Love

One female contestant who stood out in the reality show Flavor of Love was Tiffany Pollard, better known as “New York.” She was eliminated from the show but that didn’t stop her. She ended up having her own reality series called I Love New York. The show featured men competing for her love. Afterwards, she appeared on The Next: 15. Today, she is part of the series Famously Single which features single celebrities who move in together and attempt to solve their romantic issues.

Zulema Griffin From Project Runway

Zulema Griffin took part in the second season of the hit reality series Project Runway. However, she was eliminated and did not make it to the top. But that did not stop her from doing what she loves. Since the show, she has become a successful costume designer. One project which stood out was her costume designs for the film Our Sins. 

Richard Hatch From Survivor: Borneo

Richard Hatch is the winner of the first season of Survivor. He is considered to be one of the most popular contestants of the series. Later he also participated in the All-Star season Survivor, Celebrity Apprentice and took part in The Biggest Loser: Temptation Nation. However, things went downhill for him in 2006 when he was convicted of tax evasion. He ended up serving three years in prison.  

Evan Marriott From Joe Millionaire

Evan Marriott was working as a construction worker when FOX chose him as the star of the relationship reality show Joe Millionaire. Throughout the show, twenty women competed for his affection thinking he was a millionaire when in fact he was a working-class construction worker. Contestant Zora Andrich won the show. However, the two ended up splitting the $1 million prize and going their separate ways. Afterwards, Marriott became an underwear model. However, today he is back to working as a construction contractor.

 

Bethany Frankel From Real Housewives of New York

Bethany Frankel appeared in three seasons of the reality show The Real House Wives of New York. However, that was not enough reality for her and she went on to participate in Skating With The Stars, taking second place in the competition. She went on to make a guest appearance on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and also rejoined The Real House Wives of New York. In recent years she has founded the cocktail website “Skinnygirl Cocktails.”

 

Juan Pablo From The Bachelor

Juan Pablo starred in the 18th season of The Bachelor and ended up choosing contestant Nikki Ferrel as his partner. However, their relationship didn’t last long; the two ended up splitting up in October 2014. Pablo now works as a sports and music consultant and is dating model and TV show host Osmariel Villalobos.

Kate Gosselin From Jon & Kate Plus 8

Kate was the star of the reality series Jon And Kate Plus Eight. The show followed the lives of Kate and her then husband Jon as they raised eight kids (they had twins and sextuplets). However, the two divorced in 2009. Later, the show continued as Kate Plus 8, portraying her life as a single mom. She also appeared on the series Dancing With The Stars.

After Kate and Jon divorced, Jon was kicked off their reality series. There were rumors that the reason for their divorce was Jon’s relationship with the daughter of Kate’s plastic surgeon. However, he denied the speculations. Nowadays Jon works for Green Pointe Energy. He is also a waiter and DJ on the side. Currently, he is dating a nurse named Colleen Conrad.

 

Brooke Hogan From Hogan Knows Best

Brooke Hogan first entered the reality show world with the series Hogan Knows Best. The show followed her father, a famous wrestler, and their family. Once the show was canceled, Brooke starred in her own reality series Brooke Knows Best. The show documented Brooke’s life in Miami. Hogan also tried her luck in the music industry. In 2015, she released a country song called “Girlfriend.”

 

Kirstie Alley From Kirstie Alley’s Big Life

Alley was already a successful actress when she entered the reality TV world. Her big break as an actress came when she played Lieutenant JG Saavik in the film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kha. In 2010, her own reality show, Kristie Alley’s Big Life, was launchedThe show followed her life as a single mom as she worked through her weight struggles. Nowadays, she is still working in the industry. Her most recent appearance was in the comedy show Scream Queens.

Nene Leakes from Real Housewives of Atlanta

Leakes first appeared on our screens in Real Housewives of Atlanta. Since then she has starred in various hit television shows including The New Normal and Glee. In 2014, she also decided to try Broadway and had a role on the show Cinderella! Nowadays, when Leakes doesn’t act, she is busy creating her fashion line The Nene Leakes Collection. Her line has become a huge hit on the Home Shopping Network.

Snooki From Jersey Shore

Snooki originally became known for appearing in the hit MTV series Jersey Shore. The show followed the lives of eight roommates living in a vacation home in Jersey Shore. The show was highly successful and Snooki became well known. She appeared on talk shows such as The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Late Show with David Letterman. In recent years she has released a cosmetics brand. Additionally, she ended up marrying Jersey Shore star Jionni LaValle. The couple had two kids together.

 

Audrey O’Day From Making the Band

Audrey O’Day first became known for taking part in the MTV series Making The Band. She was part of the girl group Danity Kane. After the show, she modeled for magazines such as Bender. She also tried her luck in Broadway and performed in the Broadway musical Hairspray. Later she continued to take part in reality shows such as Famously Single and Celebrity Big Brother 18.

Jamie Chung From The Real World: San Diego

When Jamie Chung was a college girl, she starred in the reality series The Real World: San Diego. Later she also appeared on Real World/ Road Rules Challenge: The Inferno II and won. However, after these two appearances, she decided to leave the reality TV world behind and focus on an acting career. So far she has starred in several movies including The Hangover Part II and Grown Ups. Nowadays she is married to actor Bryan Greenberg.

Jennifer Hudson From American Idol

Jennifer Hudson first appeared on our screens in 2004 with the reality show American Idol. Her appearance certainly got her noticed and nowadays she is famous for being both a singer and an actress. She has released two albums and even won an Oscar. You may recognize her from Dreamgirls, Sex and the City, or The Secret Life of Bees. She was also a guest judge on the hit reality series The X-Factor. 

Lauren Conrad From Laguna Beach/The Hills

Lauren Conrad was the star of two very successful reality shows: Laguna Beach and The Hills. The shows gave her much exposure and she became a household name. Nowadays she has become both a style and beauty guru. She not only released her own clothing line but has also written several bestselling novels based on her life. She is married to guitarist William Tell and the two have a son named Liam.

Kat Von D From LA Ink

Kat Von D starred in two reality shows: Miami Ink and LA Ink. The shows documented the lives of famous tattoo parlors and their clients. Kat was one of those talented tattoo artists to be featured. Nowadays she works to advocate for animal rights and also has her own cosmetics line which is cruelty-free. Recently she married Rafael Reyes, a member of the band Prayers. 

Clay Aiken From American Idol

Clay Aiken first gained fame when he made it to second place on the second season of American Idol. He gained success and in 2003, his album Measure of a Man went multi-platinum. All in all, he has sold over five million albums and became the fourth highest selling American Idol star. Besides being a singer, Clay also found a passion for politics and decided to run for Congress in North Carolina. However, he ended up losing in the general election.

Spencer Pratt From The Hills

Spencer Pratt first made an appearance on the MTV series The Hills. However, he wasn’t exactly the most favored reality star. However, after the show, he continued to appear on reality shows, along with his wife Heidi. The two starred in Celebrity Big Brother, Marriage Boot Camp and I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! Nowadays Spencer is still married to Heidi and the two recently had their first child, Hunter.

The Situation From Jersey Shore

Mike Sorrentino, also known as “The Situation” definitely stood out on the hit MTV series Jersey Shore. His fights and flings provided enough drama for all six seasons. After the show ended, Sorrentino felt like one reality series wasn’t enough and he appeared on nine other reality shows. Some shows he participated in include Dancing With The Stars, Celebrity Big Brother, and Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars. Nowadays he is engaged to his college girlfriend, Lauren Pesce.

Jay Manuel From America’s Next Top Model

Jay Manuel or “Mister Jay” was the creative director of America’s Next Top Model. He also co-hosted the show along with the famous Tyra Banks. He was very loved by fans due to his famous one-liners and stand out personality. After the show, he hosted Canada’s Next Top Model. Later he was also a judge for Miss Universe 2017. However, nowadays he is no longer doing reality shows. Currently, he manages his own successful cosmetics line called Jay Manuel Beauty. 

Adrianne Curry From America’s Next Top Model

America’s Next Top Model is one of the most successful reality shows to date. The US version has produced 24 seasons so far! The series also has over 30 other international versions. Adrianne Curry was the first star to win the title America’s Next Top Model. After the show, she continued to appear on our screens with shows such as The Surreal Life and My Fair Brady. She ended up marrying My Fair Brady co-star Christopher Knight but later the two got divorced.

Carson Daly From MTV TRL

Total Request Live was a reality series which featured popular music videos. The show hosted big artists and gave them a platform to debut their new music. Carson Daly was the original host of the show. After the show, he continued hosting other shows including The Voice and The Today Show. Nowadays the star is married to film producer Siri Pinter. The two have three children together.

Bill Rancic From The Apprentice

The Apprentice is a reality show which judges the business skills of its contestants. Bill Rancic was the winner of the first series of the show. After The Apprentice, Rancic used his business skills to start several companies. He is also a successful real estate developer. Bill ended up marrying E! host Giuliana Rancic and nowadays the two have a reality show called Giuliana and Bill.

Carmen Electra From Till Death Do Us Part: Carmen and Dave

Carmen Electra first gained fame after playing Lani McKenzie on the show Baywatch. After the show, she starred, along with her then-husband Dave Navaro, in her own MTV reality show called Carmen and Dave: A Love story. However, the series didn’t achieve much success. Moreover, the two ended up getting divorced. Afterwards, Carmen continued to further her career with appearances in various movies and TV shows. She also designed her own clothing line.

Amber Portwood From Teen Mom

Amber was one of the first girls to star in Teen Mom; the spin-off to the famous reality MTV show 16 and Pregnant. Fans would tune in to watch her on-again-off-again relationship with Gary, her daughter’s father. However, in 2017 she left the series. Afterwards, she unfortunately had a few incidents with the law and ended up going to jail for a year and a half.

Anne Robinson From The Weakest Link

Anne Robinson is famous for her memorable phrase, “you are the weakest link, goodbye.” The star, or as some people call her “Queen of Mean,” was the host of The Weakest Link for twelve years. In 2017, she hosted the renewed celebrity edition of the show for the charity Children in Need. She is actually scheduled to return to the show again in 2018.

Barbara Evans is known as Jenelle Evan’s controversial mother on the show Teen Mom. She was shown constantly criticizing her daughter. While all she wanted was to get her daughter on track, it looks like she hasn’t had much success in that field. Ty Pennington was the host of both Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and Trading Spaces. After the shows, he created his own furniture line Furniture Unlimited which works in partnership with Sears. He also published a book called Ty’s Tricks: Home Repair Secrets Plus Cheap and Easy Projects to Transform Any Room.

Savannah Chrisley

Savannah first became known as Todd and Julie’s daughter on the reality series Chrisley Knows Best. The show focuses on the wealthy life of real estate mogul Todd Chrisley as well as his family. Savannah is also a former beauty pageant contestant and was named Miss Tennessee Teen in 2015. Nowadays she is focusing on fashion design; she has recently debuted her own collection. The star is currently dating professional ice hockey player Nic Kerdiles.
