1985 was the year our lives were first inexplicably intertwined with the lives of the residents of Walford on “EastEnders.” Audiences are captivated each week by the triumphs and turmoils of the characters, making it one of UK’s highest rated programs. Some left Albert Square to pursue other goals and others met their demise on the show. These beloved characters are gone but not forgotten, so, in memoriam, here’s where they are today.

Sean Maguire (Aidan Brosnan)


Sean Maguire’s character Aidan Brosnan was the rising star footballer in Walford. He fell in love with Mandy Salter, who leads him down a path of self-destruction. Surprisingly, it turns out to be a car accident that ruins his career. Their involvement with one another leads them into a downward spiral, culminating in their eventual homelessness. After an additional series of unfortunate events, Aidan blames Mandy for all his misfortunes and returns to his birthplace, Ireland.

Sean Maguire (Aidan Brosnan)


Sean Maguire continues working even after his footballing days in Walford. His first post-Eastenders role was Marty Dangerfield on the TV show “Dangerfield.” He has continued to land various reoccurring roles on TV series such as “Eve,” “Off Center,” and “First Class.” Most recently he scored the role of Robin Hood on ABC’s popular hit series “Once Upon a Time.” Though his character was allegedly killed in the series, it is rumored he will still return in 2017.

Michael Greco (Beppe di Marco)


After trying to frame Grant Mitchell, Beppe di Marco is fired from the police force. He takes a day job as a taxi driver and begins to manage a nightclub with his partner Steve Owen. Beppe eventually falls in love with Lynne Slater and unsuccessfully tries to talk her out of marrying Garry Hobbs. He sells the club following his mother’s death and leaves Walford to be with his family. Michael Greco won the British Soap award for Sexiest Male in both 1999 and 2000 for his character Beppe.

Since his days as a disgraced officer of the law, Michael Greco has definitely been busy. He starred in ABC’s “Revenge” and opposite Kevin Costner in “Hatfields & McCoys.” The show received 16 Emmy nominations, winning 5. In 2015, he co-starred in “Misfire,” in the role of Johnny. Little known fact: Michael Greco is an avid poker player. He has earned over $480,000 while playing in huge tournaments, one of which being the World Series of Poker.

Lucy Benjamin (Lisa Fowler)


2001 marked the year that Lucy Benjamin’s character Lisa Fowler brought one of the most famous storylines ever to hit “EastEnders” to life. Lisa shot her former partner Phil Mitchell, with whom she had a tumultuous relationship, encompassing miscarriage, emotional and physical abuse and infidelity. Though her character was taken off the show in 2002, she was brought back for a short time in 2003.

Lucy Benjamin (Lisa Fowler)


Since Lisa Fowler, Lucy Benjamin has been involved in a myriad of projects. In 2006, she was the winning contestant of “X-Factor: Battle of the Stars.” In 2008, she won £10,000 for her charity www.rosiesrainbowfund.co.uk appearing in “All Star Family Fortunes”. She participated in the reality TV series “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!” and in 2015 had a recurring role in the show “Detectorists.” Most recently, she starred in the horror flick “The Haunting of Ellie Rose.”

Gillian Taylforth (Kathy Sullivan)


Gillian Taylforth plays Kathy Sullivan, one of EastEnders’ baseline characters. As one of the original characters, Kathy has been involved with tons of crazy story lines including rape, adoption, domestic abuse, and infidelity. She is also an entrepreneur on the show, buying the local cafe and changing the name to “Kathy’s.” After her bumpy ride in Walford, she and her son Ben fled to South Africa to live with her brother Ted. The most recent storyline led viewers to believe she died in a car crash after she arrived to South Africa.

Gillian Taylforth (Kathy Sullivan)


From 2002-2006, she played Jackie Pascoe-Webb in the TV drama “Footballers Wives.” In 2008, she got on “Strictly Come Dancing,” but unfortunately she was voted off in Week 2. In 2013, she joined “Celebrity Big Brother,” and was evicted from the house after 15 days. The good news is, all her “Eastenders” fans were thrilled by her return in Summer 2016, when she suddenly reappeared back on the show.

Tom Watt (George “Lofty” Holloway)


George Holloway got his aptly appointed nickname “Lofty” sheerly because of actor Tom Watt’s height. As an ex-soldier, he never exactly fit in with the scene in Walford. Being the bartender at the Queen Vic constantly put him awkwardly in the middle of Angie’s and Den’s arguments. He accidentally agreed to raise Den’s baby and marred Michelle Fowler. After Michelle decided to abort his baby against his wishes, he took his leave from Walford.

Tom Watt (George “Lofty” Holloway)


Since leaving “EastEnders” in 1988, Tom Watt has gotten a bunch of film and television roles. He appeared in the films “Saint Jude,” “Sherlock Holmes,” and “The Cucaracha Club.” Additionally, he became a sports journalist and scored a gig as the ghostwriter for David Beckham’s autobiography. He is currently the lead presenter for BBC London’s soccer coverage as well as hosts for Arsenal’s club TV channel’s weekly programmes. Watt is also credited as a producer for the children’s sport series “Rookies.”

Michelle Ryan (Zoe Slater)


Michelle Ryan made her character Zoe Slater iconic for the famous words “You ain’t my muvva!” Finding out Kat was her mother and Uncle Harry was actually her father set her life into a tailspin and she runs away. Kat finds and rescues her and brings her back to Albert Square. Eventually she falls for Den Watts’ wiles and has an affair with him. After catching them together, Chrissie convinces Zoe to plot revenge against Den for his wrongdoings. In 2005, she leaves Walford to party in Ibiza.

Michelle Ryan (Zoe Slater)


Michelle Ryan’s left Walford for Hollywood. In 2005, she played the lead role of Jaime Sommers in the “Bionic Woman” TV remake. Unfortunately, the show performed poorly in the ratings and was not renewed for a second season. She returned to England and starred in a few “Merlin” episodes as well as an episode of “Doctor Who.” In her personal life, she caught tons of media attention for dating actor Jason Segel in 2009.

Leonard Fenton (Doctor Harold Legg)


The main doctor on call in Albert Square was played by Leonard Fenton. He spent 12 years on the show, during which he saw suicides, murders, abortions and more. Though he was widely trusted throughout Walford to give advice, he somehow failed to diagnose Vicki Fowler’s meningitis and didn’t mention Colin Russell’s multiple sclerosis. Even though he was replaced by Dr. Fred Fonseca, he returned for multiple funerals. His last appearance on the show was June 8th, 2007.

Leonard Fenton (Doctor Harold Legg)


After he finished his rotation in Albert Square, Leonard Fenton has taken on very few roles. In 2007, he played the character Terry Page in the film “Underground,” and appeared on an episode of “Doctors” in 2011. His extracurriculars include singing with the London Lieder Group and painting landscapes and still life watercolor. He had 4 children with his ex-wife Madeline, and is now a very loving grandpa.

Kara Toiton (Dawn Swann)


Dawn Swann was the object of every Walford boy’s crush when she arrived. Viewers endured a tangled plotline when she decided to sell her baby to Dr. May. Dawn and her recently born baby Summer survived a kidnapping, but then Dr. May, Dawn and Summer were all in an explosion. Unfortunately, Dr. May did not survive. Dawn was left at the altar by Gary Hobbs but they later reunited and sailed into the sunset, far away from Walford.

Kara Toiton (Dawn Swann)


Kara Toiton has taken on various ventures since her days in Albert Square. In 2010, she recorded a documentary called “Kara Tointon: Don’t Call Me Stupid.” about the various difficulties dyslexic people face. In that same year, she won “Strictly Come Dancing.” She has been playing Maria in “The Sound of Music Live” and is currently scheduled to appear in the 2017 Tv series, “The Halcyon.”

Anita Dobson (Angie Watts)


Anita Dobson gave depth to her character Angie Watts’ emotional turmoil. Always the life of the party, Angie Watts had a big personality, but she wasn’t always happy and at her core just wanted her marriage to Den to thrive. Angie attempted suicide as well as lied to Den about being given 6 months to live. After all of the lying and infidelity, the infamous storyline twist is Den serving her divorce papers on Christmas Day.

Anita Dobson (Angie Watts)


Anita Dobson took on more roles in plays and musicals after her days on “EastEnders.” She starred “Chicago” and “Hamlet” in the West End and was offered numerous TV and film roles as well. Her first TV role after “EastEnders,” was in 1989 as Cathy on “Split Ends.” She has had recurring roles on several TV series such as “Smokescreen,” “Get Well Soon” and “Gigglebiz” as well as roles in the films “Darkness Falls” and “London Road.”

Richard Elis (Huw Edwards)


Amicable Huw was played by Richard Elis from 1996-1999. He land his best friend Lenny Wallace lived in a squat and ran a pirate radio station together. In Walford, he worked in a nightclub as a bartender and as a cafe waiter. After a dodgy liason with Ruth Fowler, who deceives him into believing she may be interested in a relationship with him, he ultimately ends up leaving the show with Carrie Swann.

Richard Elis (Huw Edwards)


Richard Elis has continued acting far beyond Eastenders. He has starred in several TV series, including “Doctors,” “All Shook Up!,” “Hinterland” and “Ordinary Lies.” In 2015, he played the ongoing part of Jeff on the TV mini-series “35 Diwrnod.” In 2017, he is slated to appear opposite Rosanna Hoult in the feature film “Viking Siege” in the role of Brother Burgess. He has one daughter with his wife, fellow soap opera actress Tonya Smith.

Des Coleman (Lenny Wallace)


Huw’s best friend Lenny Wallace was played by the actor Des Coleman. Lenny appears for the first time in Walford in 1996, when he begins working as a barman, appropriately so, as he loved his ladies and drink. On the side, he gets hired as a cab driver. He once had a had a Hepatitis B scare as well as a memorable one-night stand with Bianca. In 1999, he was offered a job at a West End Club and he left Walford for good.

Des Coleman (Lenny Wallace)


After he left Albert Square, Des Coleman continued to pursue a career in acting. However, he only landed a few small roles, appearing in very few TV movies and shows. He landed a spot as a weatherman on “East Midlands Today” but lost the job in 2011, after a ‘serious on-air breach’, when, while reporting the weather, he discussed his arrest for allegedly pointing a gun at a motorist and subsequent upcoming court case. He is now the main weather presenter at “iTV News Central.”

Deepak Verma (Sanjay Kapoor)


Sanjay Kapoor, played by Deepak Verma, was a sucker for get-rich-quick schemes. Sanjay was first introduced in 1993 as Richard Cole’s friend. He showed up just before his pregnant wife, Gita, just in time to gamble away their flat deposit money. Gita develops post-natal depression and leaves to recuperate with some relatives. She unexpectedly comes home, and finds Sanjay and her sister Meena sleeping in their bed together, naked. Sanjay and Gita survive a few more affairs, a suspected murder, and a newborn baby and still they end up back together. The family’s exit from the show was ultimately brought about when a reporter uncovers their story and reports it.

Deepak Verma (Sanjay Kapoor)


Since his days in Walford, Deepak Verma has had a decently successful acting career. From 2000-2001, he played a recurring role as Rahul on the Indian TV drama “Kyunki… Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi…” He then appeared on various TV shows including “Holby City,” “Doctors,” and “Dominion.” In 2011, he wrote, produced and directed the short film “Mumbai Charlie,” which is about a cult-like society in Gujerat that is obsessed with and prays to Charlie Chaplin. He is also slotted to play the role of Dr. Daniel Fernandez on the upcoming 2017 TV series “Emergency: LA.”

Gary Beadle (Paul Trueman)


Gary Beadle, who portrayed Paul Trueman, made his first appearance on “EastEnders,” in 2001. Paul was the eldest son of Audrey Trueman. He believed his father was Patrick Trueman, but he had abandoned him when Paul was still a child. Paul and his brother Anthony were polar opposites. Anthony was a great student and Paul engaged in crime. Anthony got in a car crash while he was drunk and crippled a young girl. Paul took the blame and went to jail for his brother.

Gary Beadle (Paul Trueman)


Gary Beadle has had much better luck than his character Paul Trueman. He had recurring roles on TV series “Thieves Like Us,” “Doctors,” and “The Interceptor.” His most recent on camera role was in the 2015 film “In the Heart of the Sea,” alongside Chris Hemsworth. He also took to the stage. In 2015, he debuted in the “Whipping Man,” and in 2016, he performed in “Les Blancs,” and the National Theater.”

Adam Croasdell (Dr. Al Jenkins)


Dr. Al Jenkins was played by Adam Croasdell. Al grew up in Walford and was very good friends with Dot Branning. Al had several relationships during his time in Albert Square. However, ultimately he fell for Roxy Mitchell. However, after Roxy gained her father’s inheritance she had less interest in Al. Al asked her to move to Cornwall with him, she said no, and he left heartbroken.

Adam Croasdell (Dr. Al Jenkins)


Adam Croasdell has done well in his acting career, since leaving EastEnders in 2010. In 2012, he played the title role on the TV series “Bond, James Bond.” He also appeared in other series such as “Supernatural,” “Once Upon a Time,” and “Body of Proof.” His most recent role was as Bothwell, in the hit show “Reign.” He has also done some voice acting, narrating a documentary and voicing other animated characters.

Louise Plowright (Julie Cooper)


Walford-native, Julie Cooper, was played by Louise Plowright. Although Julie was born in Walford, she grew up in Salford. She returns to her birth-town to sell the house left to her by her grandmother. She eventually opens a salon called Julie’s. Julie had her ups and downs with her Salon, including some troubles with the Mitchell brothers. She eventually loses a lot of money and sells her salon to Grant, and returns to Salford.

Louise Plowright (Julie Cooper)


Julie continued acting after she left the show, in 1990. She made her way to the theater, in 1999, and was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Best Supporting Performance in a Musical for her role in “Mamma Mia!” She also had a few on-camera roles including recurring roles in “Grange Hill” and “Footballers Wive$: Overtime.” Unfortunately, on 1 March, 2016, she lost her battle to pancreatic cancer at the age of 59.

Linal Haft (Harry Gold)


The manipulative Harry Gold was portrayed by Linal Haft. Larry and wife Vanessa sure stirred up some controversy, in Albert Square. Vanessa has an affair with Max. She leaves Harry to go live with him, but when she finds out Harry is heartbroken she goes back. However, once more she has a change of heart. Harry spray paints “slapper” on Max’s door, and he posts nude photos of Vanessa all around Walford. Vanessa has to eventually contact Harry to ask for money for Jodie and Darren’s wedding. However, Darren doesn’t want him around and Harry leaves spiting the soon be married couple.

Linal Haft (Harry Gold)


Since leaving Albert Square in 2011, Linal has continued to play manipulative characters. However, he has made a pretty successful career out of the type casting. He appeared in the movies “Outside Bet,” “After Death,” “The Gatehouse,” and “The Search for Simon.” He also had roles on TV series, such as “Ripper Street” and “Casualty.” He is also expected to appear on both TV and film in 2017.

Sudha Bhuchar (Meena McKenzie)


Sudha Bhuchar plays Gita Kapoor’s sister, Meena McKenzie. In the beginning Meena and Gita’s husband, Sanjay, do not get along. However, after Gita leaves the house, Sanjay needs help raising his child so he asks Meena to stay. Nonetheless, Gita was very surprised when she found the 2 were having an affair. It ends Meena’s marriage. However, she finds a new fiance, Guppy Sharma. To make contact with her sister, she has Guppy try to strike a business deal with her. However, Meena’s plan backfires and Guppy falls for Gita.

Sudha Bhuchar (Meena McKenzie)


Meena McKenzie’s affair had no effect of Sudha Bhuchar’s career. Since leaving “EastEnders” in 1996, she has spent most of her acting career on television. Some notable roles of hers were portaying Devika on “Casualty,” and Tanisha on “Stella.” One of her most recent roles was performing Sonia Rahman on the hit TV series “Coronation Street.” She is also a playwright and is currently the Artistic Director of Bhuchar Boulevard, a company formed to help create her new writing.

Craig Fairbass (Dan Sullivan)


Craig Fairbrass played the hunky character of Dan Sullivan. He arrived in Albert Square as the boyfriend of Carol Jackson. Carol’s daughter, Bianca was stunned to hear the news as Dan and Bianca had once had a fling. Even though Carol was pregnant with Dan’s baby, Bianca and Dan had an affair. This led Carol to have an abortion and leave Walford – Bianca followed. After many run ins with the law, and a big fight with Phil over the Queen Vic, Dan left Walford.

Craig Fairbass (Dan Sullivan)


Craig Fairbrass has had a very successful acting career since portraying Dan Sullivan. In 2007, he landed a leading role in the sequel “White Noise 2: The Light.” That same year he landed an appearance on an episode of the hit TV series “Stargate SG1.” His most recent film appearance are in the 2016 films “Breakdown,” and “London Heist.” He is married to former page three model, Elke Kellick, and they have 2 sons together.

Michelle Collins(Cindy Beale)


This home-wrecker made her way through many of the Albert Square men. Played by Michelle Collins, Cindy eventually settled down and married Ian Beale, out of desperation. Unfortunately, she could not keep away from temptations and had an affair with both David and Simon Wicks. Instead of divorce, Cindy tried to murder her husband Ian, but failed. She fled Walford. She eventually ended up in prison and died from childbirth, in 1988.

Michelle Collins(Cindy Beale)


“EastEnders” sky rocketed Michelle Collins’s career. She has had many reoccuring roles on TV series including “Two Thousand Acres of Sky,” “Sunburn,” “Rock Rivals,” “Coronation Street,” and most recently “Casualty.” In 2014, she released her memoir “This is Me.” In 2016, Collins participated in the reality series “Bear Grylls: Mission Survive.” She is also involved in many charities – she is an ambassador for “Ambitious about Autism.” She has one daughter, Maia.

Maisie Smith (Tiffany Butcher)


This adorable but mischievous red head, Tiffany Butcher, was played by Maisie Smith. Just like her mom, Bianca, she loves attention she knows how to get what she wants. She wanted to be a professional singer and dancer. Although her drive was strong, her talent was questionable. She was a very troublesome child but her heart was always in the right place. Her last appearance on the show was 12th September 2014.

Maisie Smith (Tiffany Butcher)


After her days as the fiery-red head in Albert Square, Maisie Smith began singing. She started by posting covers on YouTube. She released her own single, along with a music video, titled “Good Thing,” in October 2016. She has not done any acting since leaving the show. However, also this year, she made a surprise appearance on “EastEnders,” along with Devon Higgs.

Sophie Thompson (Stella Crawford)


The crazy stepmom-to-be of Ben Mitchell was Stella Crawford. Stella, played by Sophie Thompson, is originally introduced as Phil Mitchell’s lawyer. They begin dating and Stella moves in with him. Not too long after, she begins manipulating and abusing Ben. She forces Ben to get Phil to propose, which she accepts. During the wedding ceremony, Ben admits what Stella has done and Stella runs away. Phil finds Stella on a roof, where he finally admits he doesn’t love her but chose her because he thought she would be a good choice for Ben. She jumps to her death.

Sophie Thompson (Stella Crawford)


Since Stella’s dramatic exit from “EastEnders,” in 2007, Sophie has certainly kept busy. She appeared in critically acclaimed movies “Eat, Pray, Love” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.” In 2016, she appeared in TV series “Jericho” and “We The Jury.” She is also a published author. In 2015 she released her cookbook “My Family Kitchen,” and in 2016, she released the children’s book “Zoo Boy.”

Linda Davidson (Mary Smith)

Linda Davidson portrayed one of the original characters on EastEnders, Mary Smith. Mary first appeared on episode 5 in 1985 and her last appearance was Episode 345 in 1988. She was the originally punk in Albert Square, who caused a little bit of controversy during her time on the show. She stripped to make money for her family, and got into arguments with others about her profession. In 1998, she got on a bus with her daughter Annie and was never heard from again.

Linda Davidson (Mary Smith)


Since her days portraying troublesome Mary Smith, Linda Davidson has made herself quite the career. She continued to dabble in acting, appearing in various TV shows and movies until the early 90s. She then went on to work in digital media for BBC and Channel 4, later becoming the director of Discovery Communications. In 2011, she founded “a.bridge collective,” which is a network of broadcast and digital media experts.

Paul Nicholls (Joe Wicks)


Joe Wicks, played by Paul Nicholls, arrived to Walford looking for his wayward father David Wicks.  Due to a troubled past, Joe never had a chance to live an normal life. He was traumatized by the loss of his sister Karen and battled incipient schizophrenia. He attempted suicide. Despite his problems, he still attracted many ladies. He even had a short engagement with Sarah Hills. He left Walford, with his mom Lorraine, to retreat to a calmer life in Bolton.

Paul Nicholls (Joe Wicks)


Paul Nicholls, like many other former “EastEnders” found success on TV. He had multiple reoccurring roles on TV shows like “The Passion,” “Harley Street,” “Holby City,” and “Law & Order: UK.” He most recently appeared as Nathan on the TV mini-series “In the Club.” He is currently credited to perform alongside John Hannah, in “Genesis,” which is currently in post-production. Ironically, a trait you may also expect from his character, Joe Wicks, Nicholls is also an avid supporter of Bolton Wanderers Football Club.

Martin Kemp (Steve Owen)


Steve Owen came to Albert Square in order to acquire The Market Cellar. He renamed it e20. He lived the life of a gangster, his storyline dealt with drug addiction, robberies and sketchy business deals. He saw his end after he got into a road rage incident with Phil Mitchell. Steve Owen crashed into 2 petrol tanks and the car explodes. Steve Owens last performance on the show aired 1st March in 2002.

Martin Kemp (Steve Owen)


Kemp continued to have a successful acting career after leaving “EastEnders.” His first larger role being the reoccurring character of DC Jack Finn on “Serious and organized.” He has had roles in many movies including “Back in Business,” “Jack Falls,” and “The Best Years.” Kemp made his directorial debut, in 2011, with the psychological thriller “Stalker,” which he followed up with 2014’s “Top Dog.” He also finished third in the summer series of “Celebrity Big Brother,” in 2012.

Shana Swash (Demi Miller)


Demi Miller arrived in Albert Square at the age of 13, and she quickly became the subject of everyone’s conversation. Demi, played by Shana Swash, was pregnant at the age of 13. Two months after her arrival she gave birth to Aleesha Miller. Because of a controlling father, Demi’s boyfriend and Aleesha’s father, Leo, was not allowed to have contact with them. They ran away together and got hooked on drugs. Leo died of an overdose.

Shana Swash (Demi Miller)


Shana Swash, now 25 years old, still works as an actress. In 2009, she performed in the TV movie “The Crime Wave,” and in 2014, the short film “Dignity.” Her most recent role was in the film “My Feral Heart,” as Eve. She also works in a local Pub, in North London. Even though she had a slight fall from fame, she still looks amazing.

David Proud (Adam Best)

When Adam Best first arrived to Walford it seemed as though this super intelligent fellow was going to be a great addition to the Square. However, his love lust caused some issues. Son after arriving he began chasing Libby Fox, despite her being connected to Darren Miller. Unfortunately, he was in the for the chase, because once he had her he decided to go after Lucy Beale. He may be notoriously remembered for trying to exchange sexual favors for exam papers with Lucy. Lucy got the best of him which ultimately led to him leaving Walford in July 2010.

David Proud (Adam Best)

Like his character, David Proud is actually confined to a wheelchair, as he has spina bifida. However, he hasn’t let his wheelchair stand in the way of his career. After “EastEnders”, Proud co-wrote and co-starred in a short film titled “Wheels of Fortune.” His most recent role was in 2015 with an appearance on the comedy drama No Offence. Due to his intensive work with several charities he was awarded the Freedom of the City of London, in 2011. He has been married since 2016 and has one child.

Meryl Fernandes (Afia Masood)

Meryl Fernandes’ first professional acting role was portraying a role on EastEnders. She not only played Afia, but also a school girl extra. Afia was a very blunt, go-getter. Afia married Tamwar during a secret ceremony, but later had another traditional ceremony that included family. Unfortunately, her father, Yusef did not fully approve of the marriage. Sadly, Yusef died in a fire, in which Tamwar was also badly injured. Ultimately, Afia and Tamwar realized they weren’t meant to be. Afia left the Walford on her moped seeking adventure in 2012.

Meryl Fernandes (Afia Masood)

After her last appearance as Afia on “EastEnders” in 2012, Meryl has mainly stayed away from the camera. Her last acting credit was in 2013 with an appearance in an episode of “Doctors.” However, she has set off into other ventures. She is the owner of a lifestyle store as well as restaurant. She also appears as herself as a presenter on “World of Weird” and “Crazy, Sexy, Cool”. Below she is pictured with her husband, Tom Oldroyd.

Bill Treacher (Arthur Fowler)

Arthur Fowler was one of the original characters on “EastEnders”. Although he was a decent man, he was surrounded by women who wanted to control his life, such as his mother-in-law Lou and wife Pauline. His resentment towards his wife led him to have an affair with Christine Hewitt. Pauline found out and hit him with a frying pan. He eventually went to prison after getting caught stealing money in order to pay for his daughter’s wedding. In 1996, he died of a brain hemorrhage only a few short days after his release.

Bill Treacher (Arthur Fowler)

Before “EastEnders” Bill Treacher was already an established actor. After leaving the show in 1996, he only added a few more acting credits to his name. He appeared in movies such as “The Musketeer” and “Tale of the Mummy.” He has since retired from acting and is now focusing on his health. He has been diagnosed with Ataxia (the loss of full control of bodily movements).

Jasmyn Banks (Alice Branning)

Alice Branning, played by Jasmyn Banks, was the exact opposite of her father and criminal, Derek. Alice was warm hearted and saw the best in people. Therefore, even though Derek has treated her and her family horribly, she kept giving her father more chance to redeem himself. When he suddenly passed, Alice was heartbroken. Unfortunately, her family’s bad reputation didn’t stray far. After getting involved in Michael and Janine’s relationship, she was sent to prison. She was last seen on “EastEnders” in 2013.

Matt Lapinskas (Anthony Moon)

Despite having very good looks, Anthony Moon dealt with several insecurities. He always try to mimic his brother when it came to the ladies. However, deep down, he was less of a player and more of a romantic. Anthony began dating Alice Branning. Unfortunately, for him, she had an angry father and he had a gambling problem. Her father, Derek, challenged Anthony to a high stakes piker game. He lost the game and his family business. He fled Walford after his defeat in 2012.

Matt Lapinskas (Anthony Moon)

Matt Lapinskas has certainly kept his name in the limelight. Unfortunately, not always for the best reasons. He appeared on “Dancing on Ice” in 2013. This is where he met Brianne Delcourt. It was later found that Matt was cheating on his then girlfriend, Shona McGarty, with Brianne Delcourt. However, Brianne came forward about the infidelity when he was further cheating on her. For now, Matt has kept his personal life out of the news and has found his way back in front of the camera. He is set to appear in the film “Dead Ringer”, which is currently filming. Hotheaded character Bianca Jackson was played by Patsy Palmer. Bianca had had her fair share of relationship woes. She found out her boyfriend at the time, Tony, had been abusing Whitney at the same time her kids were being taken out of her custody. For a reprieve, Bianca left for Manchester to take a course in fashion, and when she returns to Albert Square she arrives with a new boyfriend and 2 new kids.

Patsy Palmer has kept herself busy since her days of playing Bianca Jackson. Since the beginning of 2000, she has been working on and releasing fitness DVDs. In 2007, her autobiography “All of Me” was published. Her last appearance on “EastEnders” in 2014 and she hasn’t done a whole lot of acting since then with the exception of, playing the role of Jack’s Mother, in the 2015 short film “Jacked.”  She and her husband live in Malibu, California and are currently busy raising 4 children.

Jack Ryder (Jamie Mitchell)


Jamie Mitchell, played by Jack Ryder, was a local Walford favorite. Though he was the was the object of  many Walford crushes, he eventually ended up with Sonia. He also acted as a makeshift therapist for Billy and Grandfather Phil.  Jamie Mitchell’s character was the victim of  a fatal car accident that resulted in his untimely death in the hospital, Sonia by his side. Jack’s last portrayal of Jamie was in 2002, on a Christmas Day episode.

Since they killed him off on “EastEnders,” Jack Ryder has not been getting much work in Hollywood. He got a role in the film “Popcorn,” and has made brief appearances on a couple of TV shows, including “The Hollow Crown” and “Holby City.” In 2016, he was hired to work on the TV mini-series “In the Club” playing the recurring role of Gareth.  Without his signature blonde hair, he’s almost unrecognizable as the teenage heartthrob of Walford, the character that gave him his start.

Martine McCutcheon (Tiffany Mitchell)


Poor, abused Tiffany Mitchell was played by Martine McCutcheon. She was the victim of several abusive men in her life. Her alcoholic father caused her to have a miscarriage after he pushed her down the stairs. Her husband, Grant, was jealous and controlling. In her last attempt to free herself from her violent husband, Grant grabbed their baby away from her and Tiffany got run over by Frank Butcher’s car. Her death forced her best friend, Bianca, to raise her daughter. Bianca named her little girl after her.

Martine McCutcheon (Tiffany Mitchell)


Since leaving the show in 1999, Tiffany as been pursuing a side career as a pop star. Her first single, a cover of “Perfect Moment,” from the album “You Me & Us,” reached number 1 on the UK charts. Her second album, titled “Wishing,” was released in 2000. In 2016, McCutcheon was featured as one of the new panelists for  “Loose Women.” She used the show as a platform to talk about her seldom mentioned struggles with ME (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). She is married to singer Jack McManus.

James Alexandrou (Martin Fowler)


The youngest of the Fowler family, Martin Fowler, was played by James Alexandrou, and boy did his character see his fair share of turmoil. He had the misfortune of living through his fathers breakdown and imprisonment, his parents’ separation, and the premature death of his father and brother.  After losing his virginity to Sonia, she got pregnant and they decided together to give the baby up for adoption. Against his mother’s wishes, a strange series of events ultimately brought them back together and they got their daughter back, but their relationship continued on the same rocky path, regardless.

After his role on “EastEnders,” James started taking a lot of work in theatre. After playing roles in the West End productions of William Shakespeare’s plays and a stint at the Globe Theater as Romeo, in 2014, he played Iago in the The Grassroots Shakespeare London adaptation of “Othello.” Not to say he stopped working in television altogether, he is currently the presenter for the show Bizarre Crime and has had many small roles on multiple TV series, including hosting multiple documentaries on BBC Three.

Nick Berry (Simon Wicks)


In 1985, Simon Wicks, as portrayed by Nick Berry, showed up in Albert Square and immediately got himself a job at the Queen Vic. In a shocking turn of events, out of nowhere his mother told him she believed Brian was his biological father. In 1990, after an affair with Cindy, he left with his wife and new baby. In 2012, he returned only to visit his mothers grave. During his time on the show, Nick also had a music career and released the single “Every Loser Wins” which became a #1 hit.

After his time was up on “EastEnders,” Nick starred in the police series “Heartbeat.” His remade the “Heartbeat” theme song and, unsurprisingly, it reached #2 on the UK charts. He kept working in television, and had recurring roles on “Harbour Lights” and “In Deep.” He appeared in made-for-TV movies such as “Respect,” “Black Velvet Band,” and “The Mystery of Men.” He still runsValentine Productions, the production company he started.

Michael French (David Wicks)


Michael French brought the notorious womanizer character of David Wicks to life. In his teen years, David Wicks got his girlfriend, Carol Branning, pregnant when she was only 13 years old. He never found out if she had the child or not. He moved on an eventually married Lorraine, however, he had many affairs. He was soon reconnected with his childhood sweetheart, Carol. However, this time he fell for her eldest daughter, Bianca. Needless to say, it was a shock when he found out Bianca was his daughter! Michael originally left the show in 1996 but reprised his role as David from 2012-2014.

Between his reprisal of David, Michael was busy with two TV shows. His first role after originally leaving the show was as Detective Jeff Slade on “Crime Traveller.” From 1999-2010, he had the reoccurring role of Nick Jordan, on “Holby City.” From 1998-2013, he played Nick Jordan on the medical TV drama “Casualty.” He also went back to his roots of performing in theater. He had roles in “Art,” “Chicago,” and most recently in 2014, “Sound of Music.”
