Because of the lifestyle, they are involved in; these couples share an unlikely common story. Who could understand a pro wrestler better than another pro wrestler? Who could possibly commiserate with living a life of extreme physical injury and theatrics if not a partner in the same over-the-top industry? And yet, so few made it. But, some did. Here are the couples that flourished in the weird, larger-than-life world of WWE.
John Cena And Nikki Bella
Nikki Bella met John Cena when they were both pro wrestlers. In 2012, after dating for years, John proposed to her in front of an audience of millions of fans at Wrestlemania 33, but as of yet, they have not set a date. Bella said in June 2017 that though they’re still in the beginning stages of planning, the wedding will most likely take place in the coming year. “Definitely a year,” Nikki told E! News. “I can’t wait too long. He might run off! I’ve got to lock him in…”
Daniel Bryan And Brie Bella
Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella have been together since 2011, shortly after having a storyline together in which they were dating. “It actually started as a storyline, and then we really hit it off,” Daniel Bryan told PW Mania in 2013. Bella and Bryan were married in 2014; their wedding was filmed for Total Divas. “I couldn’t ask for a better man, best friend, father, and husband to spend the rest of my life with,” Brie Bella gushed in her wedding vows. “Your humble heart, sense of soul, has made me a better person. Every time I look into your eyes, I immediately feel comfort.” Bella and Bryan have just recently become parents to their first child, a baby girl named Birdie Joe Danielson.
Bayley And Aaron Solow
Pamela Rose Martinez, whose in-ring name is Bayley, met Aaron Solow in 2010 while they were both training together in California. They are now engaged to be married, though no information about the wedding has yet been announced. Solow and Bayley frequently interact on Twitter, responding to one another with memes and image macros; Bayley on several occasions has mocked Solow for his “dad tweets.” On Instagram, Aaron has posted many photos of himself with Bayley, who he calls his best friend.
The Heartbreak Kid And Whisper
Shawn and Rebecca have been married since 1999. Whisper had a light WWE career as a Nitrol Girl, and Shawn Michaels was, at the time, one of the top talents in the ring. They have both since retired from professional wrestling in 2010 and live in Texas.
Naomi And Jimmy Uso
Originally on the E! reality series Total Divas, Naomi Uso was one tough cookie. However, after meeting Jimmy Uso and falling madly in love with him, the two got married and started having a more normal life together. Unfortunately for Naomi, she got dropped from Total Divas for being too boring and ended up going into wrestling, winning a belt alongside her husband in a tag team.
Matt Hardy And Reby Sky
Matt Hardy tied the knot with Reby Sky (Rebecca Reyes) in 2013. They have two children together: a 2-year-old son named Maxel, and have recently welcomed their second child. The couple opted for a natural birth at home, aided by midwives and doulas. The little boy has been named Wolfgang Xander.
Booker T And Sharmell
Booker met Sharmell in 2005, and five years later, Sharmell gave birth to a set of twins (boy and a girl). Sharmell made appearances in the WWE during Booker’s feud with Kurt Angle and later as Queen Sharmell, where she would appear as Booker T’s ‘King Booker valet.’ She also appeared with him once he had left WWE for TNA.
Buddy Murphy And Alexa Bliss
Alexa Bliss and Buddy Murphy publicly announced that they were engaged in early 2017, but apparently, the two had been engaged since December 2015. So why haven’t the two gotten married yet? Well, Bliss told Gorilla Position that the two of them just got incredibly busy. Around the time they were planning the wedding, Bliss was called up to SmackDown Live, and so their lives became quite complicated. Because they perform on different WWE brands, it’s difficult for Bliss and Murphy to see one another, and she says that they only see each other for about six hours a week. However, Bliss says she actually thinks their relationship has been made stronger as a result. The two are outspokenly supportive of each other on social media, and Murphy is constantly live-tweeting episodes of SmackDown Live and Raw and retweeting Alexa Bliss GIFs.
CM Punk And AJ Lee
AJ Lee has been the longest reigning Divas champion. However, she has been on the scene less, ever since she met and married wrestling superstar CM Punk. Both retired from professional wrestling in by 2015, but CM Punk went on to fight in the UFC.
Maryse And The Miz
Though their relationship (as well as there careers) blossomed in the WWE ring, French Canadian Maryse left to pursue a modeling career. Maryse and The Miz are really close, and it is possible to see how devoted the two are to each other by checking any one of The Miz’s social media pages. Maryse never misses a chance to see The Miz in the ring, supporting him and cheering him on every chance she gets.
Natalya Kidd And Tyson Kidd
Natalya is another former WWE female wrestler who appeared on E!’s reality series Total Divas and demonstrated her staying power with her flair for drama. Some have hypothesized that she makes sure that her relationship with husband Tyson is so tumultuous that she remains in the perpetual spotlight of the show, though the two even got married on the E! program.
Lana And Rusev
Like a lot of WWE romances, Lana and Rusev’s started when the two began to see each other more often as a result of their storyline together. They became engaged in 2015, and they were married in 2016. “She became my best friend right away, and we were talking and texting all the time and all of that,” Rusev said on Talk is Jericho. “And, eventually, little by little, once we started working together-together, and when you spend more time with somebody….we kissed at some point. And then, the American thing happened. So we kissed, and we’re hanging out. We were boyfriend and girlfriend in my book. But then, one day she goes and says… what did you say? ‘Are we together?’ And I was like, ‘what do you think we’ve been doing for the past four months?’ What is that even supposed to me? I’ve never understood that. In my country when you kiss somebody for four months, everything is straight and you’re damn sure you’re boyfriend and girlfriend!”
Carmella And Big Cass
Big Cass and Carmella have been in a long-term relationship for quite some time now, with their on-screen relationship going back even further, as they used to be paired together. Back in their NXT days, Carmella worked alongside Enzo Amore and Big Cass, and she was even a part of their intro; Enzo Amore used to say, “And this right here? This is Carmella, and she’s hot as hell, and you can’t teach that.” When Enzo & Cass were promoted to the main roster, Carmella was kept down in NXT. However, this latest development will have many people questioning whether or not the two will be partnered up on either Raw or SmackDown Live at some point shortly. Unfortunately, the couple recently announced their split.
Dean Ambrose And Renee Young
Renee Young and Dean Ambrose were actually going to bed when they had the sudden idea to get married immediately. Renee told E! of her spur of the moment wedding to Dean Ambrose, “We were going to bed! We were going to bed and he like busted out the ring, and we were like, ‘Oh man I guess we should do this now.’ So we ended up going on Yelp, and we found a 24-hour pastor to come to our backyard…His name was Pastor Pete, and he lived around the corner from us, so he was there. They were very concerned by the way because it was 1 o’clock in the morning, so technically it was Sunday, and they were very concerned about us calling, they were like, ‘Is everything OK? Have you guys been drinking? What’s happening?’ We’re like, ‘It’s fine, you can come down.’ So we had to get a witness, and we called and woke up a friend of ours and got it done.”
Jessica Lockhart And Chris Jericho
This is a wrestling couple who have so far been married for well over a decade and a half. These two were one of those rare high school sweethearts success stories. They have a beautiful family and remain happy together.
Bo Dallas And Sarah Backman
Eight-time World Arm Wrestling champion from Sweden Sarah Backman almost got on the professional wrestling circuit but didn’t make the final cut. All was not for naught, though, as she did meet the love of her life, Bo Dallas, in her explorations of a potential professional wrestling career.
Christian (Jason Reso) And Denise Hartmann
Denise and Christian first met when Christian was traveling around Europe and by chance happened upon lovely Denise, who was working as a model at the time. They embarked on a relationship that would last over 15 years, culminating in their marriage in 2001 and the conception of a child together.
Jackie Gayda-Haas And Charlie Haas
Jackie Gayda was a model turned wrestler, and Charlie Haas was wrestling near the top of his game when the two met. They have since retired from wrestling after getting married in 2005, and after Charlie was caught using illegal steroids. In his defense, he was under the impression that the steroids were legal, and was having them administered by a doctor. Charlie and Jackie now have a nutrition store in Texas called Custom Muscle Nutrition and Smoothie Shop.
David Otunga And Jennifer Hudson
This is a very interesting couple, primarily because this is a case where only one member of the couple is an actual professional wrestler. Jennifer Hudson is an American Idol singing sensation. She met David Otunga, and the two have been together ever since, taking it slow to nurture their individual blossoming careers. Despite being engaged, the couple has not set a wedding date as of yet but do already have a beautiful child together.
Brandi Runnels And Cody Rhodes
Brandi Runnels started out as a professional news anchor for a local news station before she became Eden and seamlessly transitioned into the world of professional wrestling, where she met her now-husband, fellow wrestler Cody Rhodes. After they got married, their chemistry was so undeniable that the two were written into wrestling sagas together.
Triple H And Stephanie McMahon
When Stephanie and Triple H tied the knot in 2003, they were met with a ton of backlash from other fellow wrestlers and fans alike, who all thought that Triple H married Vince’s daughter to keep a stronghold in the WWE and cement his favored status for the future. Vince himself didn’t approve of the perceived power move, and there were many wrestlers who hated Triple H for such an underhanded play. But Stephanie was defiant and bravely broadcasted her very real love for Triple H and actually went ahead and married him, in spite of everything. The two are still a happy couple, in and outside of the WWE ring.
Kid Mikaze And Sasha Banks
Sasha Banks and Sarath Ton (Mikaze) got married just days after her first title win. Mikaze is a wrestler who has performed on the independent circuit and who now makes costumes for the WWE. He has made all of Sasha Banks’ gear as well as some iconic costumes for superstars like Paige and Summer Rae. Banks told the Miami Herald, “Most recently I haven’t been able to pick out what colors I wanted or scheme, I just had him do it because now he knows what I want. He envisions it. I just tell him, ‘I want to look the best, the greatest. Just do your thing,’ and he always makes me look amazing.”
Mike Bennett And Maria Kanellis
Mike and Maria’s careers are inextricably intertwined. They have been partners for years, beginning with their alliance at ROH up until recently as part of Impact Wrestling. Maria stood in Mike’s corner as he pursued then-ROH world champ, Jay Briscoe. She interfered in countless matches for him. Best known for her WWE days as the ditziest backstage announcer, Maria really made herself known on the Independent scene managing her husband, Mike. The couple arrived together to Impact Wrestling last year, where Maria talked up her husband as though she was both his biggest fan and the agent that believed in him the most.
Jack Swagger And Catalina White
Swagger has been with WWE since 2007 and is a former ECW and World Champion. Though he never really found his spot on the roster, Swagger has remained with the company. In this time he had also married Catalina White in December 2010, and they have since welcomed two children, Knox Sterling was born in 2011 and Presley Pearl, who was born just last year.
Heath Slater And Stephanie Miller
After teaming up with Rhyno, Heath Slater formed one half of the first ever Smackdown Tag Team Champions, perfecting his signature moves: the Jumping Neckbreaker and the Slingshot Corkscrew Plancha. He is also an awesome dad to his two daughters and an awesome husband to his wife, Stephanie Miller.
John Gargano And Candice LeRae
After coming into constant contact with one another, eventually Candice and Johnny were unable to fight the fates, and the two began dating. In mid-2016, Candice and Johnny got married in a small, private ceremony. The two are still going strong and still working together in the wrestling ring, which is the only other ring that matters.
Hulk Hogan And Jennifer McDaniel
Terry and Jennifer have been in a relationship since 2008, despite the 21 year age difference. After dating for a few months, they became engaged in November 2009 and tied the knot in 2010. Jennifer and Hogan tied the knot at his Clearwater, Florida, home in 2010 in a small ceremony with only family and close friends invited, including Hulk’s two children from his first marriage to Linda Claridge – Brooke, 27 and Nick, 25.
Paul Donald Wight II (The Big Show) & Bess Katramados
Andre The Giant was one of the largest and most successful wrestlers in pro-wrestling history. Paul Donald Wight II, better known as The Big Show, has tried to continue that legacy. The Big Show stands at over 7 feet tall and is definitely not a force to reckoned with. Since 2002, he has been married to the beautiful Beth Katramados. They have two children.
Glenn Jacobs (Kane) And Crystal Jacobs
In the early 90s, Glen Jacobs portrayed several characters in the ring. However, he became his most famous, Kane, in 1997. He quickly shot to one of the most popular personas to ever enter the ring. However, before he was Kane, he always had one supporter who believed he was the best – his wife Crytal. Crystal and Glenn Jacobs, have been married since 1995.
The Undertaker And Michelle McCool
Though The Undertaker is one of the most well-known wrestlers in all of professional wrestling, he likes to keep a low profile in his day to day, preferring to keep his life private. Unless, he is showing off his wife Michelle McCool and his daughter, with whom he is flushed with pleasure at any and every opportunity for a photo op.
Brock Lesnar And Sable
Brock and Sable have been married since 2006. They have five children between them; Sable has a daughter named Mariah from her first husband and Brock has twins from his prior relationship, 15-year-old Brock Jr., and Mya. Brock and Sable have two sons together, eight-year-old Turk and 7-year-old Duke. The story of how their relationship came to be is a complicated and intricate web woven of WWE storylines, dedication and perseverance despite scheduling discrepancies and inconvenient circumstance. Despite all the challenges a couple in their line of work face, they are still committed and determined to live their happily ever after – they live a private, happy and segregated life on their farm in Saskatchewan.
