Hitting the road for a family vacation is a great way to build lifelong memories. For outdoor enthusiasts, there are countless activities that can help cement those memories. One such activity that has gained a lot of ground in the last twenty years is zip-lining. Zip-lining is a bit of an all-inclusive term, as you can also find things like rope courses, towers, and rope bridges. If zip-lining sounds like something you’d be interested in during your next road trip, here’s a look at some of the best destinations in America for getting among the treetops.

Historic Banning Mills

Whitesburg, Georgia

In 2012, Historic Banning Mills achieved a Guinness Record for longest and largest zip line course. It boasts 10 miles and six different levels of zip lines and sky bridges. You’ll see plenty of sites along this tour. Aside from the countless trees, you’ll also cross the Lost Gorge at Snake Creek and fly past the ruins of Old Banning.

ArborTrek Canopy Adventures

Jefferson, Vermont

You’ll need reservations for a tour at ArborTrek, but it’s worth the extra step. You’ll find eight different zip lines, two rope bridges, and two rappel towers. The entire course will take about two and a half hours to complete. You’ll get more than just thrills, as guides will also school you in local history and ecology.

Adventures on the Gorge

Lansing, West Virginia

Adventures on the Gorge has something for everyone in your group. You’ll find simple courses and challenging obstacles alike. While the zip lines, bridges, towers, and obstacles will provide plenty of fun for the family, the New River Gorge Bridgewalk is the keynote attraction, taking you on a 24-inch-wide catwalk 850 feet above the New River.

Monkey Trunks Extreme Aerial Adventure

New England

Monkey Trunks Extreme Aerial Adventure gives you the option of the three different locations throughout New England:  Chocorua, New Hampshire, Weirs Beach, New Hampshire, and Saco, Maine. Regardless of which location you choose, you’ll find plenty of rope courses, obstacles, and zip lines to keep you busy for the day.

Cypress Valley Canopy Tours

Spicewood, Texas

Just outside of Austin, you’ll find Cypress Valley Canopy Tours. Multiple zip line tours will send you flying through the sky at heights of up to 40 feet. When you’re done with all of the zip lines, sky bridges, and rappelling, you can picnic and swim at the site’s private lake.
